Some people have favorite animals, and I am no exception.
I love all animals, but I have a few that are just my absolute favorites.
I love elephants and would love the chance to help them survive when I retire. I adore otters; some people say they are like rats, but I think they are playful critters who just love to have fun. More than these two animals, though, I absolutely relate to giraffes. Growing up, I was always taller than everyone else my age, and I think my fascination with the long-necked creatures started back then. The Denver Zoo has giraffes! If you want to and are quick enough, you can purchase tickets to the Giraffe Encounter which allows you to feed the giraffes after the park closes for the evening. Fair warning, though, it is often sold out. Just seeing the giraffes is amazing, even if you don’t get to join the feeding experience. Seeing them on TV is great and all, but seeing the giraffes at the Denver Zoo makes you realize just how tall these beautiful animals are. Their legs are as tall as, or maybe even taller than, a man. Just the legs! The prehensile tongue of the giraffe allows it to swoop its tongue around a branch and just strip the leaves off the branch in one fell swoop. At the zoo, I learned giraffes have a heart that weighs about 25 pounds – about three times the size of my daughter when she was born! Everything is big on a giraffe, I suppose. Even though it is legal to use cannabis recreationally in Denver, nothing will get you quite as high as feeding the giraffes at Denver Zoo.
